Transport Planning & Governance Systems
A common denominator for the theme is the development of transport infrastructure in cities. More specific, it is the drivers, institutions and actors who shape the overall design of urban transport systems that are being analyzed. By answering questions on why different transport systems have developed the way they have, crucial knowledge is acquired that can explain the support for various types of mobility. This, in turn, can be of assistance to academics, policymakers and practitioners who wish to change planning processes so as to make them more inclusive with regard to the stakeholders. In the long run, this research also makes it possible to develop cities in a sustainable direction, providing mobility concepts that are equally accessible for all citizens and at the same time meeting environmental constraints.
